So it has been forever. I am working full-time now and haven't really had time to even think about a blog. I bought a website which isn't developed but it just made me remember that I had a blog! So I've been working for the state in corrections (i know sounds crazy, and it is) but it's a really fun job and changes everyday. I love my co-workers and wish I could have them with me in any job I have. So you're wondering about golf---I haven't played since October--yep you read right. I am dying not playing and have had some serious wake up calls in the last few months about how much I love the game and wish I was out there. Hopefully that will be changing in the near future. Well not much to say...I was in a car accident the other day but no one was hurt but we will be without our car for 2 weeks--which is outrageous..i can't believe it would take that long, but who knows. I'll try to blog more..

While Rachel is out!

I thought I would put up a little post while Rachel is in Texas (I'll tell you why she is there in a minute). She never brags about herself, so I will for her!

She is the UVU Women's Assistant Coach, and she is doing it as a volunteer! I don't think many people know about that yet, but isn't that cool! She's acting as the Head Coach in Texas right now for the team because the real Head Coach can't be there. I think that is the coolest thing in the world! She can't play 100% right now for herself, so she's giving her extra time and talent to the girls at UVU. She's going to do great things for the program in it's beginning years!

I just thought I would say that she's pretty much the best thing to hit the planet since the PB&J! We came back to Utah for the rest of the year and life got extremely busy with new babies, camping, trying to find jobs (still a process) and just figuring things out. Rachel has been working at the golf course again and teaches some lessons on the side, Curtis is currently in a temp position for the state and hopefully making something permanant with them. We are moving in October to West Valley into Rachel's families townhome. Its huge, so we'll have plenty of room to spread out for a few years. The only deal with it though is we get cheaper rent if we fix the place up cause the tenants they've had for the past 10 years have completely destroyed the place. So it'll be a challenge but an exciting one. We miss being on the road and playing golf out there but we're just taking this time in our marriage to figure things out and make a solid plan for the future. Hope everyone is doing well. We'll try to post more. Rachel is going to England in September with her mother so I'm sure there will be pictures on here.

For Stephanie!

So we've seen a few interesting things as we've traveled the past 3 weeks. We've been to Decatur, Illinois (about mid state)--Franklin, Ohio (just outside of Cincinnati)--and now we are currently in Hammond, Indiana (just east of Chicago so up north) So we thought we'd post a few pictures of what we've seen and how we got to see it. The first picture below is of Ground up Kangaroo....sounds horrible and I happen to think they are really cute animals. Well we went to a world famous market called Jungle Jims (no kid rides at this one) but it was huge. Its foods from all over the world. So we walked around for maybe a couple hours and took it all in. The only thing we ended up buying was Salt Water taffy (you guessed it, from Utah) and some english candy for my friend Hailey. But it was neat to see the different things people will eat. This picture was taken at a flea market we went to in search of belt buckles for Rachel. This baby birds with their mama decided it was the perfect place to camp out. Super cute and loud little guys.
Our favorite picture yet. This one is of what locals call "Touch Down Jesus". He is right off the main freeway and we passed him daily. Its for some born again Christian church, and I think they were trying to depict him being born again, but to us and many others it looks like his saying "It's good!"
This is where we are currently. Lost Marsh Golf Course. Pretty layout for a place that not long ago was a landfill. It sits in the middle of BP oils refineries. No joke. If the camera was turned around you'd see the whole BP factory. But none-the-less its a great course.
We had some great things happen yesterday. We started our day at 7 at the golf course and played for awhile then Rachel who had previously qualified to play in a Par 3 challenge, teed it up to play a 9 hole Par 3 for a little bit of money. She played steady golf and shot even which put her at tied for 2nd, so she should take home 700 or so from that, so well worth the time. Then we decided it was lunch time and went to the Casino that was sponsoring the tournament. They had a buffet and we were hungry. Before going in Rachel was chatting with one of the chefs for the buffet that was standing outside, after chatting for a minute about golf he offered to buy us our lunch, so a free buffet for 3 people. We made sure we tipped our waitress good. Rachel then spoke to her Dad to inform him of her success and all of the sudden she's talking to Derrek Parr (Olympic Gold and Silver medalist in speed skating) and he's wishing her good luck for her tournament and gave her some tips about believing in herself. Her dad was at a luncheon with him and asked him to speak to her. It was really cool. So yesterday was great, and now we're going to carry that through to a great weekend. We hope everyone is doing great and we'll be back in Utah to visit Monday night through Sunday.

Some pics lately

(Above) Our nephew Drew on the golf course with us in Sandy. We are currently in Mason, Ohio this week. Last week we were in Decatur, Illinois. We missed the cut last weekend, but Rachel is doing great things with her mental game and swing, so everything feels better than before. We had fun at home during the month of May and miss the family, but there is nothin like the open road and playing golf. We recently had a new addition to our family with our Nephew Aiden James Postma arriving a few weeks ago. So we are excited to welcome him into the family and get to know him better when we visit home. We had the great pleasure of taking care of our neice Ashley for a few weeks while we were home and loved every minute of that. She is adoreable and wish we could make her ours. Someday we hope our children are as cute. So we'll hopefully do a better job at keeping you updated this summer. Keep us in your thoughts.

Just practicing

We've been home about a week now. Rachel is busy practicing each day and figuring out some kinks in her swing. We'll be working with a good friend of Rachel's, Dave DeSantis on her swing this week. He was her assistant coach when she played for BYU. Not really working like we planned, practicing is way more important to both of us cause we're trying to make this golf thing work. Rachel teaches a few lessons but it helps her with her own swing getting back to basics. We're on baby duty for our nephew Drew for a few days and nights while Steph and Mike are in North Carolina picking up their new baby son!!! So we were more than happy to help them while they are away. We'll post pics of our new little guy when he arrives home in Utah. Thanks for all of those playing this Saturday in our tournament. We're excited to have this event and learn about hosting a tournament so we can make it bigger and better each year. Congrats to our friend Leah as well. She is #2 on the Futures Tour money list, and she's playing great. We are both really proud of you..but watch out...here we come Leah! And we'd like to thank our great friend Alexis publicly...thanks for the donation for our tournament. We're sorry you couldn't be here to play. Can't wait to see ya this summer. New post coming soon with baby pictures!

BACK IN UTAH!

Curtis and a rhino at the Hogle Zoo
Pretty zebras
Giraffes!
Pretty baby girl hangin out with Uncle Curtis.

So we're back and Utah and it's nice to be around family and friends. We missed our nieces and nephews. We've had the opportunity to hangout with all of them in the past few days. We all went to the zoo! We have 2 tournaments this month. Arizona for the US Open qualifier, and then the Colorado Open over Rachel's birthday on May 28th. Rachel immediately went back to varius jobs. She taught a golf lesson, working at the pro shop at River Oaks, and back to substitute teaching for a few days. We'll both be doing some temp work to make extra money while we're home. Frankly we need the money to get by and push some bills to bay while we're gone this summer. We'll be back on the open road the first week of June. It's nice to drive home and re-pack the car. Rachel had to disqualify herself after an amazing round of 66! Here's the story...

After a bogey-free round of 66 we were feeling pretty good about going into the final round tied for 5th at 5 under for the tournament. We went to Whataburger to celebrate (with what we have in savings that was the biggest celebratory lunch we could afford), and after that we went back to the course to hit the range. After hitting for a good hour we were walking over to the practice green to work on putting. When we passed the leader board Curtis noticed that they had Rachel marked down for a 7-under 65. Rachel said that happens all the time because the volunteers don't always get the official information. The Curtis remembered seeing the scoreboard where Rachel's score read "138," and 73 plus 66 doesn't equal 138. After comparing the scores written on the leader board with what Rachel had on her stat sheet we realized that she wrote 4 on a hole where she really got a 5. The mistake was that when se wrote down her score she wrote it as a par not realizing that the hole was a par 5. It was a totally inocent mistake, but that doesn't matter in golf...a rule is a rule.

Here comes the best part though. The only two people that knew about the mistake at the time were her and Curtis. She could have kept it to herself and nobody would have ever known. That's not the way it happened, however. Not 5 seconds after she realized her mistake, she stood up and walked to the rules official and said, "I need to DQ myslef." She was told she needed to go tell the head rules official who was in the travel office. Next thing you know she was talking to the two writers of the tour for a story that will be posted on the website.

So, here's to the player of the year! Rachel's honesty truly inspires all who knows her!

A few things we learned!

This is a picture of downtown from the freeway. Kind of creepy when you're on a vampire tour.

Our tour: So we highly recommend doing the Vampire Tour. Do a little research first so you can ask good questions. This tour guide knew his vampires. The stories were great and we'll share them with you all over dinner sometime cause i don't think i could type all the information, but they are really creepy and really cool. The tour also gives you history of the french quarter and how New Orleans was founded and built. A short version of one of the stories is that in the Ursuline convent of the nuns in 1720 right near the mississippi river there is supposedly vampires living in the attic of the convent and that the church is responsible for storing them there. A ship suppose to be carrying young girls from france for the workers in new orleans to marry, showed up to shore with no women (fact-they docked in Mobile, Alabama and stayed there because of fear of the men in New orleans) the only thing the ship left was a ton of coffin like boxes. The church officials at the time immediately took control of the "boxes" and stored them in a nearby facility. A riot broke out one night when rumors spread that the church was hiding whatever was in the boxes so the men broke into the priests' chambers and demanded to know because it was driving them mad. The priest told them that they would take the "boxes" and store them in the attic and lock them up. The convent has-4 shuttered windows on the top level. Not only are the top leveled window shutters shut, but sealed...with 100 blessed...yes blessed by a preist bolts. Each shutter a 100. "I wonder why?" probably cause they are housing vampires and trying to keep them inside so they wont kill. It's known to see one of the shutters open in the early hours of the morning before dawn and then closed during the day. (supposedly) and it's also known that if you ask a member of the staff at the convent what is in the attic they will dodge the question and move along or inform you that it was once sleeping quarters and no longer is. So what did Curtis and I do???...we took the tour of the convent the next day and asked that question and got a short reply of "nothing is housed on the 3rd floor, but the second is archives and outside is the gardens.." So kind of mysterious. The convent is no longer used nor the church connected to it, but it serves as a museum. Really cool tours and sightseeing. We had a great time. This weekend is the French Quarter festival so there is music everywhere and food, and tons of paintings for sale (similar to arts festival in Park city, but a ton bigger and palm readers/ tarot card readers everywhere) Must see city for anyone... Stay in the Garden District..bit safer and very pretty.

So you think gas is expensive???? Try milk in Louisiana... $4.42 a gallon for skim. Well if you know Curtis he has to have his milk, so we went broke again just buying it. We'll be pushing the car now so he can have milk. This place was like none other. Their famous dollar bill tradition started when they opened the pub and the first dollar they made, they stappled it to the wall to stay there forever. Well since that first dollar many patrons have left their own dollar and stappled it to the wall and ceilings (Now they have accumulated over 550, 000 dollars bills!! over half a million hanging all over the place). As you can see from the picture above we left our dollar and hope to go see it again someday. They also like to play tricks on their guests. When going to the bathroom remember to read the signs carefully (almost everyone falls for their joke, Rachel did) They post Men's bathroom this way signs on the womens door and vice versa. So many men and women make the mistake and walk into the wrong bathroom, luckily they put up swinging doors notifying you that you made or didn't make the right choice upon entering.

Curtis's birthday cake one day late. This was taken on Wednesday at lunchtime at a nearby cheesecake factory knock off, but just as good.

Happy as can be next to the Jazz players! We attended the Jazz game versus New Orleans Hornets on Curtis's birthday. We had 10th row tickets and the Jazz won!! Afterwards we went down on the court to be by the Jazz players and announcers. We spoke to Craig Bolerjack, he's the announcer for KJZZ and a really nice guy, he gave Rachel a half hug and she blushed...haha. It was a great birthday!

So now we are in New Orleans... We're staying in a very safe area in the Garden District. Whatever you've heard about the crime in New Orleans or the poverty....it's all true. We sort of made a bad turn when we first got into town, and couldn't believe our eyes. Right underneath the freeway (just behind the Superdome) 100's of tents..people living in plain sight in tents, police around the area but we guarantee they can't do anything about it cause there is nowhere to go. We made it out in the suburbs today to practice and noticed that it's not much nicer out there either. All of the golf courses are pretty run down (equal to a pebblebrook at home for those who know it) I'm sure the country clubs are nice, but everywhere seams to still be recovering. We haven't made it to downtown just yet, we plan on doing that after practice tomorrow. We didn't want to go there at night, A-for saftey, and B- so we can see everything better, like where they have Mardi Gras and historical sites. New Orleans has the same feel of New York...it smells and lost of old buildings, but a nice beauty to it as well..so much history and sights. One of the cities claims is that its the Most Haunted city in the US. So we've decided to test that out a bit on a little tour tomorrow night. (Steph you'll love this...) We're going on the Vampire Tour. They claim to have had vampire related deaths throughout the histories, and we're going on a 2 hours tour of the different sites. Rachel has been on a similar tour in Portland Oregon and its really cool to hear the spokey side of history in a town. They offer cemetary tours (they have to bury their dead above ground for some reason, and if you go on the tour they tell you why) So thats the plan for the rest of our stay here. We leave New Orleans on Friday and move to Lafeyette Louisiana (about 2 hours away) for 10 days. Next tournament isnt until next weekend. So plenty of time to prepare for a win!

American Systems round 2

This is Rachel on the range after today's round. She played well, but felt there was something missing in her swing. She figured it out after a long practice session with no other girls on the range. We got out of there pretty fast because it started to rain (we are hoping it will make for higher scores for the afternoon groups). After two rounds only the top 70 players make it to the last day (and the last day is what makes you a pay check!). Rachel is in good position to make the cut, and after working out the kinks, we are planning to go low tomorrow. The only thing holding us back is a slight sunburn, and aching feet (well, Curtis's feet are aching, but give him a break, he's use to sitting behind a computer all day!).

Round 1

This is a picture of us today after round one...Rachel is trying to smile. She didn't play well. 2 double bogeys in a row. We stopped by Cracker Barrel to check out their Books on CD that you can rent while you drive and then you turn them back in to anyone across the nation (pretty neat) but walking in we noticed a giant checkers board, so we pulled up a rocking chair and played. Curtis won! Rachel will just stick to golf for now. Sorry for delayed posts. The week has been full of practicing and resting. We do find ourselves with a lot of time either due to early starts each day, or weather has been off and on rain throughout the week. We fill our time with plenty of practice and checking out the local area. We went to the beach last night for a stroll, it was a lightning storm so we didn't stay long. We've watched a few movies this week (Romeo & Juliet, Drillbit, Bone Collector and Terminator). Today is the start of the tournament, so game faces on and everyone of you sending us good vibes!! Check on the righthand side of the page for Rachel's scores each day.

Reminder to family/friends: The tournament we are hosting is May 10th and we need to fill it up, So keep passing the word along and encourage them to actually call and register at the golf course (we have 4 of the 36 needed teams already written down, so plenty of space to fill). We are in need of raffle prizes so if you know any business owners who could donate gift certificates or if you and your family would like to put together a prize basket, we'd appreciate the help.

Start your engines!

Daytona Speedway...Home of the NASCAR Daytona 500. We're staying just a football field away from the speedway. We're at an extended stay till Monday, we love these places cause we can cook our own meals and save lots of money. We've stocked up the fridge so we should be set. Most players eat all their meals out, which can cost up to $60 a day per person, so I can only imagine spending that kind of money for 2. We paid $85 in groceries and have more than enough for a week. We're learning a lot about food prep and managing a budget. We're having a great time. We start playing on Friday so the next few days are practice rounds. Thanks again to those reading, we appreciate the support and comments!!

A Cheeburger Day!

Guess who had the milk and who ordered Diet??
This is not a blown up image...Curtis's mouth (which measures at 3 inches) doesn't even come close to the size of this burger!
He finished it in record time and even shocked the waitress with his finish.
So guess what?? Really cool experience. We got to go backstage and check out the stars dressing rooms. Highly recommend this tour to anyone out this way. We're now in Florida staying in a condo right on the ocean in Palm Beach (we can hear the waves crashing right now) it's really windy here, but hopefully the day time is more calm. We're staying with Rachel's friend Gerina and her former caddy Paul (who now caddies for Leah). So we've got great company. We'll be here in Palm Beach through the end of March, and then up to Daytona Beach for the next tournament. We'll post pictures daily as usual.

St. Louis Arch! We slept in till 8, rachel made pancakes and we cleaned up and went to the winter quaters temple in Omaha. Smallest temple ever but very pretty. We then drove to St. Louis and along the way when our stomachs growled we pulled off and right next to Sonic (curtis's favorite place) was an LDS church..once again the smallest ever, they must have 10 members or so it seems it could hold. Now we're resting comfortably, after a spaghetti dinner in our extended stay. Tomorrow we'll be dying easter eggs first thing then checking out St. Louis a little bit then on to Louisville Kentucky to stay with our friend Leah for Easter. Check back tomorrow for more updates.

Breakfast in the Kabin!

This is right after we showered and right before leaving our quaint little Kabin in Gretna, NE. Shooting 78 the first day wasn't the best way to open the season but I believe I was just getting the kinks worked out from the winter and getting back to competing. I spent a lot of time on the range after that round and figured out what I was doing wrong with my swing. The second round was great. Shot 70 with no bogeys, and had plenty of birdie attempts and it was a really windy day.The third and final round went well but could of been better, shot 70 again but this one included a bogey and a double bogey on the back 9. So plenty of birdies that day but I gave a few away. I carded the lowest weekend rounds with a 140, so I know I'm on track to have a great season and continue to better myself and my game. My sister Nicole caddied for me in this event and did a great job. She's a mother of 2 and sacrificed her time at home to be with me in Florida while Curtis finished up his job. She is also a great player but between keeping up with her 2 1/2 year old and an 8 month old she doesn't get to play as much as she'd like! All in all it was a great week to get back out to warm weather and play some great rounds. Next tournament will be April 4-6 in Daytona Beach Florida.

This is my most posted picture online. We plan on updating our blog daily during tournament weeks and every couple days the weeks we're traveling to our next tournament. Rachel plays next weekend in Lakeland Florida at the season opener for the Futures Tour. Her sister Nicole will caddy and Curtis will stay home and finish up working for OC Tanner. After Lakeland and Rachel's return to Utah we'll be packing up the car and driving back to Florida starting March 21st. We're both really excited to be taking off from the cold and playing some great golf!
